High School Advancement

High School Advancement Wait LIst

The deadline to enroll in our Advancement Program was 4:00 pm on Friday June 2.

If you would like to add your name to the Wait List for the August 4 PreCalculus/Algebra 2 assessment (if applicable) and/or the desired class for next school year, click here .  Please note that there are no guarantees that we will be able to accommodate your request due to space and class size limitations.

Program Confirmation and Enrollment Status

Due to the overwhelming popularity of this program, we are unable to send personal responses for submitted applications and/or proof of enrollment emails.  Automatically generated responses are sent as confirmation. We will be sending out confirmation emails as to the status of each student's Advancement Program enrollment the week of June 5.  Thank you for your patience as we process all 1,735 applications!

2017 SRVUSD High School Course Advancement Program

SRVUSD recognizes that some students are interested in advancing in the areas of math, science, world language, and/or college preparatory electives so we have devised a program to help facilitate the process.  Registration for Summer Advancement is a multi -step process as outlined below.  All steps must be completed by the deadlines listed.  Important! SRVUSD accepts only one course per subject area, per school year. (For example, you cannot advance through two math courses in one summer.) Failure to meet any deadline will result in the student being placed on the wait list for the math assessment exam (if applicable) and/or the desired course for 2017-2018. Click here for step-by-step instructions on the Enrollment & Transcript submission process.

The Deadline to enroll for this year's Advancement program has passed.  For those who are already enrolled in the program, here are the remaining steps that are necessary to complete your enrollment:

STEP 1 - ENROLLMENT DEADLINE HAS PASSED, BUT IF YOU HAVE CHANGES TO YOUR APPLICATION:

  • Send an email to Advancement@srvusd.net with "Change to Advancement enrollment for student #_______" in the subject line.
  • Be sure to include student's name, ID number and high school of attendance in the email and list change(s) that need to be made to application.

STEP 2 - PROVIDE PROOF OF ENROLLMENT:

  • For each course a student is applying to advance through, a Proof of Enrollment must be provided by June 30, 2017.
  • Proof of Enrollment must be submitted via email to Advancement@srvusd.net. Click here for detailed Proof of Enrollment submission requirements and email address.
  • Important!  Be sure to include student's full name, ID number and high school of attendance with each proof of enrollment.

STEP 4 - MATH ASSESSMENT EXAM  (For students taking Algebra 2 and/or PreCalculus only)

  • Exam will be administered on August 4, 2017.
  • To guarantee your spot at this exam, you must submit your Advancement Registration form no later than June 2, 2017 and submit your Proof of Enrollment no later than June 30, 2017.
  • Click here for details on the Math Assessment Exam and Scoring/Placement information
  • There is no make-up date

STEP 5 - TRANSCRIPTS - NEW REQUIREMENT THIS YEAR - HAND-DELIVERED TO SCHOOLS:

  • Hand-deliver final transcripts to student's high school between August 2 & August 18, 2017Schools will not accept any transcripts received via mail, fax or email.
  • Transcripts will not be accepted prior to August 2 .
  • The District Office will NOT accept transcripts this year.

Important Reminder!  Failure to meet any of the above referenced deadlines will result in the student being placed on the waitlist for the math assessment exam (if applicable) and/or the desired course for 2017-2018.

Why is a Proof of Enrollment Being Required?

The District supports our students’ desires to advance in their coursework, but it is imperative that our numbers are accurate in order to be properly prepared.  In the past, parents have enrolled students in several courses because they "might" take multiple courses over the summer but end up not doing all of them.   The information generated by the Advancement application is needed to:

  • Hire the necessary number of teachers for each subject, keeping in mind credentialing requirements
  • Determine how many sections of each subject need to be offered at each school to accommodate students’ Advancement requests
  • Order the appropriate curriculum and instructional materials needed for each subject

By requiring the Proof of Enrollment by June 30, the Counselors at each site will have more accurate information to base these decisions on and will be better able to accommodate student course requests.

Accelerated Algebra 2 Requirement

Students who take Geometry via the SRVUSD Course Advancement Program are not eligible to take Accelerated Algebra 2. These students will be placed in the SRVUSD Algebra 2 class. Click here for more information.

A note about 8th graders who want to Advance...

8th grade students who are currently enrolled in Accelerated Algebra 1 or Geometry can begin taking courses in the spring of their 8th grade year.

It is important to note that 8th graders who are currently enrolled in California State Standards 8 math CANNOT advance through Biology over the summer as Algebra 1 is a prerequisite for any kind of Chemistry class (college prep or Honors) and they will not have met that requirement. Additionally, Algebra 1 must be taken at an SRVUSD school and cannot be taken via a summer course.

Sixth and Seventh grade students cannot advance via the summer advancement program. If you have questions, please contact the counselor at your student's school.
